Should You Buy A Used Elliptical Trainer?

January 30, 2009 · Filed Under Buy Elliptical

Used ellipticals can be just as good as a brand new ones depending on how well they were maintained/ repaired, how good are the parts newly installed and the overall condition of the used elliptical equipment itself.

So what are some of the things that you should remember when buying a used elliptical machine? Let’s start with the basics. First, check if everything is working well. If you are looking at a manual elliptical trainer, check if it wobbles and if it makes any noise. If it’s a bit wobbly when you get on it then there must be something that’s causing instability and thus you should inspect further. If there’s any noise such as squeaking or grinding noises when you get on it and start using it, then there must be something that is straining under your body weight so, again,  check further.

On the other hand, if you are looking for a used elliptical trainer with digital features, besides the two things I’ve mentioned above, you should also be mindful of the digital machines attached to it. Are they functioning properly? Are the different features working accordingly? Any rusting or fading in the buttons? Look for any indication of obvious wear and tear as this could mean that you are looking at something that might break down the minute you take it home.

Lastly, check if the seller or store offers a return policy. This is one way of telling if the shop owner is confident with his merchandise. Make sure that your money is well spent on a quality used elliptical fitness equipment that would last you a long while even if it is secondhand.
